NOT A JOINER? Go it Alone. Or Get Personal Help.

If you don't have the time or resources to join a gym, there are plenty of inexpensive and effective fitness alternatives -and you don't have to look much further than your front door.

Setting a consistent time to workout each day is key to "going it alone." Many experts recommend fitting at least 30-minutes of cardio into your daily routine. This could include walking or jogging around your neighborhood in the morning or evening, or hitting the pavement on your lunch break at work. If you like the company or need a motivator, find a neighbor, coworker or family member who shares your newfound passion for fitness and keep each other accountable.

If the rain, snow or dark are keeping you indoors, there are still many options for getting fit without leaving the house. Put an aerobics, pilates or yoga program in the DVD player and get to work. Or, try subscribing to a fitness channel through your local cable carrier. Nobody will notice that you're still in your pajamas when the music starts.
